Day of Logistics Guide: What to Expect for Your Photoshoot Day

I’m so excited to capture this special day for you! To help everything run smoothly and keep you focused on enjoying the moment, here’s a breakdown of how the day will go and some tips to make the experience as relaxed as possible.

1. Arrival & Meeting Spot

We’ll meet at a location we’ve chosen together. I’ll send a detailed map with directions so you can find it easily. You will have access to a detailed timeline of the plan for a photoshoot on your personal website. Aim to arrive 10-15 minutes early to allow time to settle in, adjust any last-minute details, and get ready to start!

2. Outfit Touch-Ups

Bring along any small items you might need for a quick touch-up, like a comb, lipstick, or powder. If we’re in a natural setting, I recommend wearing or bringing comfortable shoes. If you’re bringing multiple outfits, we’ll discuss the best order based on location and lighting so you can have a smooth transition between looks.

3. The Flow of the Session

We’ll start with a few warm-up shots to help everyone ease into the session. I’ll guide you through natural poses and prompts to create authentic moments — no need to worry about what to do, I’ve got you! You’ll get a mix of both posed and candid shots, some will have you looking directly at the camera, while others will capture your interactions with each other or the setting.

Timeline for the Session:

  • Warm-Up (First 15-30 minutes): We’ll begin with comfortable, classic shots — the kind that family members love to frame. Starting with some stationary poses, I’ll capture everyone looking their best while you settle into the flow.

  • Posed and Interactive Shots: Next, we’ll ease into gentle movement, like walking hand-in-hand, leaning in close, or sharing a laugh. These shots create natural interaction while keeping everyone engaged.

  • Playful or Candid Moments: As the session continues, we’ll capture more spontaneous shots that allow for playful or relaxed moments. This is where you might get a little dirty and possibly even sweaty, creating unforgettable memories.

  • Finishing Touches (Final 15-30 minutes): We’ll wrap up with any special requests and capture those quiet, joyful moments reflecting the day’s energy. Think relaxed, natural shots that celebrate the experience we’ve just shared.

4. Breaks & Hydration

For longer sessions, we’ll take breaks to refresh and recharge. I’ll provide water and light snacks, but feel free to bring any extras that you’d enjoy. Staying hydrated is especially important if we’re outdoors!

5. What to Do If You or Your Kids Feel Nervous

It’s natural to feel a bit nervous — even I get that way! Remember to breathe, relax, and enjoy the experience. I’ll guide you through each pose, and by the end, you’ll feel more comfortable than you might expect.

For sessions with young children: Flexibility is key. Children may not follow a strict schedule, and that’s completely okay. I intentionally keep sessions with small children relaxed so that I can follow their lead. This way, I can capture them authentically and let them shine, making the experience as stress-free as possible for you and your family.

6. Weather and Backup Plan

For outdoor sessions, I’ll monitor the weather closely leading up to your date. If any weather issues arise, I’ll reach out to discuss options for rescheduling or choosing an alternate location.

7. After the Session: Next Steps

Once we wrap up, the editing process begins! Each photo is thoughtfully enhanced to bring out its best qualities. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Family/Couples Sessions: Expect a 2-3 week turnaround time.

  • Minimonies/Elopements: Turnaround is no later than 6 weeks after your wedding date, with a sneak peek gallery ready within 2 weeks.

I generally don’t alter bodies for cosmetic reasons in editing. However, if you have any specific requests for subtle adjustments, let me know! I’m happy to make edits that keep you looking like yourself but help you feel more comfortable with your photos.

Final Checklist for the Day
